Gary Neville praises Chelsea following Saul Niguez signing

Gary Neville has lauded Chelsea’s transfer business following the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

Chelsea fended off reported interest from title rivals Liverpool and Manchester United for the signature of Saul.

The Spain international signs on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy next summer for approximately €30 million.

Saul becomes Chelsea’s third signing of an impressive transfer window

He becomes the Blues’ third signing of the transfer window. They brought striker Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge for a club-record fee and recruited Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli on a free transfer.

They made a profit during the summer, with Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Marc Guehi all sold for over £20m.

And former Man Utd right-back Gary Neville has been impressed with their business.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 46-year-old said: “You look at what they’ve done in this transfer window in terms of ins and outs, and again it’s been another exemplary performance from them.

“I’ve watched them twice already – away at Arsenal and away at Anfield – and that’s a really good team. That’s a team that wins and is ready to win more.”

The London outfit are fancied by many people to win the Premier League title, and they have justified this support with a strong start to the season.

They began with comfortable wins against Crystal Palace and Arsenal before securing a 1-1 draw away at Liverpool despite playing the second half with ten men.

Manager Thomas Tuchel will be hoping to build on the enormous success he had in his first season at Chelsea.

Having taken over from club legend Frank Lampard, he had a tough task getting the fans on his side but passed that test with flying colours.

Tuchel won the Champions League in his debut season at Stamford Bridge

The German guided the Blues to their second-ever Champions League trophy, defeating English champions Manchester City in the final thanks to a goal by Kai Havertz.

On top of this, he elevated them into the top four and reached the FA Cup final.

Next up for Tuchel’s men is a home fixture against Aston Villa, before their first Champions League group stage game versus Zenit St. Petersburg.

They also face tough tests against Tottenham Hotspur, Man City and Juventus this month.
